"THE WILL TO SUCCEED IS IMPORTANT, BUT WHAT'S MORE IMPORTANT IS THE WILL TO PREPARE." - BOBBY KNIGHT #INTERNATIONAL BRILLIANCE
ABOUT THE SAT
The SAT is an entrance exam used by most colleges and universities in America to make admissions decisions.
The SAT is a multiple-choice, test created and administered
by the American College Board.
The purpose of the SAT is to measure a high school student’s readiness for college, and provide colleges with one common data point
that can be used to compare all applicants. College admissions officers will review standardised test scores alongside your high school GPA, the classes you took in high
school, letters of recommendation from teachers or mentors, extracurricular activities, admissions
interviews, and personal essays. How important SAT scores are in the college application process
varies from school to school.
Overall, the higher you score on the SAT, the more options for attending and paying for college will be
available to you.
WHAT IS IN THE SAT?
It consists of two sections: Math, Reading, and Writing. The Reading and Writing section contains two
stages of 27 questions in 32 minutes, and the Math section includes two stages of 22 questions in 35
minutes. Students can move back and forth among questions, but only within the current stage.
All students take the test in the following order:
Reading & Writing Stage 1
Reading & Writing Stage 2
Break
Math Stage 1
Math Stage 2
Students will test at the test centre (this is not an at-home test) and have many options for testing
devices. Students may use their own laptops (Windows or MacOS), iPads, and school-managed
Chromebooks. They can also incorporate external devices such as a mouse, keyboard, or stylus for
personal comfort. College Board will establish lending programs for students who do not have
approved devices.
The entire test is cached and encrypted, so an internet disruption should not prevent the completion of
an exam. Bandwidth requirements are minimal. The test will be administered in a locked-down app;
students will not be able to open other applications while testing.
